Lewis and Clark Journey

We started our journey with a letter from Thomas Jefferson who invited us to go on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Each student was given a satchel to keep "findings" along the journey and to also use as a journal to write what they had learned and discovered. We started our journey with the "Discovery of Buffalo." Here we learned the different ways that Lewis and Clark used buffalo as a resource on their journey. Our keepsake for this station was a picture of a buffalo nickel.
Our next station was meeting Sacagawea. Here we learned how Sacagawea helped Lewis and Clark on their journey. She was an interpreter and a guide. Our keepsake for this station was a picture of the Sacagawea coin.

Our next station was the "Discovery of Flora." Here we learned  the different types of plants that Lewis and Clark discovered on their journey. Our keepsake for this station was a piece of flora "discovered" in the court yard. (Thank you to our classroom volunteer for helping the students learn about the different flora Lewis and Clark discovered).

Our next station was, "Climbing the Rockies." We took our journey outside to "climb the Rockies" (a small hill on the playground) just like Lewis and Clark did to get to the Pacific Ocean. To help us on our climb over the Rockies, we had traded a penny with Sacagawea's brother for a horse.

We finally made it to the Pacific Ocean where we picked up a seashell as our keepsake!
